There is no teacher shortage, there is a shortage of teachers willing (in Illinois) to work half the time as nurses for twice the remuneration (including free platinum health insurance and near-zero personal pension contributions including zero social security contributions--called taxpayer 'pickup')...and nurses bear personal professional malpractice liability which teachers never dreamt of. Chicago teachers' clients (kids) cannot read or do math at graduation...can you imagine if the teachers bore personal liability for such malpractice? Can you imagine a nurse with an 80% overall mortality rate of patient outcomes? Can you imagine a nurse job requiring only working <30 weeks annually, vesting 6-figure taxpayer-guaranteed defined-benefits pensions aft as few as 20 years because of pension-spiking? Nurses, become public teachers.

The term "doctor" originates from the Latin word "docere," meaning "to teach," and was first used in the 13th century for scholars with doctoral degrees in theology, law, and philosophy. Medical professionals adopted the title in the 14th century as formal medical education developed. To prevent confusion, one solution could be for medical practitioners to use a different title.

I grew up in a Christian home and while I don’t actually think my parents are true misogynists, but there was so much anti woman messaging from the church and general community, but it was subtle so I didn’t realize it until adulthood. Abortion def fits into this! I remember every year my school would sponsor an event where everyone put tape over their mouth for a day in rememberance of all the aborted “babies” who could never speak. How ridiculous!

Because healthcare in the United Stated is so bad, I have not gotten treatment for injuries or illnesses. I then feel as if I cannot talk about those things because people will ask me why didn’t I go to the doctor???!!! Uhm because I either did not have health insurance or the care I would receive would be way too expensive. I just do not like talking to people anymore. We have to be one of the least empathetic nations. People who have not been in my shoes do not have a clue.

Many people in my life do not understand why I do not go to the doctor regularly. They accuse me of not wanting to take care of myself. I am a divorced single mom. I was only making 30k doing administrative work and I bumped up to 60-70k the first year of working with my LPN. And it was relatively quick to get since my bachelor's covered most of the prerequisite classes.

Not sure if she gave him the whole 2mg dose but that is a huge dose for a 95 year old. Maybe 0.25-0.5mg and it wouldn’t be IV. And Ativan usually makes delirium worse in the elderly. If they aren’t snowed, when they wake up they are worse.

As a hospice home health nurse it can be so rewarding helping someone pass how they want and provide comfort for their loved ones. The struggle is families not wanting to be involved so I spend more time with their loved ones then they do, elder neglect families who are not knowledgeable about hospice accusing you of trying to kill them faster. Tough

The main reason that healthcare if going down the tubes is corporate ownership of hospitals and nursing homes and other health facilities. Corporates have no more capacities for patients. Their only concern is money, period. Healthcare needs to be done another way, possible like it was in the 1950's where Doctors owned the facilities.

10:39 I know I’m late to the party, but oh my heart breaks hearing this, for both of you. One time at my first job, we had a small kitchen fire in the SNF I was working in, but when the alarm is activated the patients’ doors would automatically shut at nearly the same time as the alarm itself would start going off. So I was with my patient, a sweet woman (with a wicked sense of humor, too!) who was bed-bound, and we both gasped as we turned around to see her door slam shut and the alarm sound. I asked to myself “what’s going on?” Before I could reassure her, she stared at me seriously as she said “I’ll protect you.” It wasn’t sarcasm (like she loved to dole out), it was instinct, and even if I tried to lighten the mood by having a playful banter with her of “no, *I* will protect you,” and even if it ended up being a small fire that was immediately put out, I’ve never forgotten that situation and how awful it was that both of us had to instinctually consider how we’d protect each other’s life if it came to it. I hate so deeply how this is something we have to think of in America, let alone in a caring profession.
